Sorry about the lateness this week – we were up in NY for some family events this weekend, and I didn’t get much time for shooting. This fruit plate was Dori’s lovely work this morning!

After the little bits of Irene passed us by, we had a lovely overcast afternoon, which made for some fun outdoor shooting. The 2nd & 3rd shots are today’s.

52-7 – Grass Swirls, Spider Close-up, and more

August 21st, 2011 Permalink

This is a bit of a grab-bag of pics today, since I managed to get off my butt and shoot a few times. The spider shot was using a reverse-mounted lens technique where you take a normal camera/lens setup and then using an adapter, mount another lens onto the one that is already on the camera. The result is a very high magnification, but it is a challenge to get decent shots. I’m not thrilled with this one, but it’s also a pretty good start. The ‘Grass Swirls’ are from around the neighborhood, and the frogs and grasshopper are from the NCBG.

52-6 – Roots

I’ve shot these roots before, but I wanted to take another try at a particular group of them tonight. I wanted to exaggerate the length of them, so I got up nice and close, but there was too little light for me to close down the aperture as far as I wanted. This was the best shot, but I’m still not 100% thrilled with it.

52-3.5 – View from the Wesser Tower at the Tellico Gap

One more shot from last week’s vacation. This is probably the best panorama I’ve done yet – 6 or 7 shots, all handheld.

52-3 – Deep Creek, in The Smoky Mountains National Park

Dori and I finished up the 2nd half of our “babymoon” last week with a trip to the Smoky Mountains. We went to the NC side, near Bryson City. These shots are from the park – the first and second are two different spots along Deep Creek. The third was one of many patches of black-eyed susans along the trail.

Dori and I got out a little late for birding yesterday at Mason Farm, so it was really just the dragonflies out in abundance.

I’ve been slacking off here long enough, so I wanted to post a few shots to kick off the next round of my project. I’ll call this next round ’52+ Pix’, lowering the bar slightly from my original 3/week, but aiming for quality in what I post. We’ll see what happens, but it starts today.
