Dori and I did a walk today around Johnson Lake, in Raleigh. We spotted this guy early on, and he was kind enough to only fly a little ways off. This bird is a juvenile sharp shinned hawk, or so we think. Apologies for the minor foreground branches, that was the best sight line I could get.
Dori and I went to Mason Farm around sunset tonight, and managed to spot this barred owl a good 100-150 feet away on a branch. It was pure luck that there was a natural sight line.
This little guy sat still for quite some time. Long enough for me to notice him, forget about him & go read some email, then come back and take several pictures of him.
